Police have arrested a 26-year-old Puna man in connection with a fire that destroyed a Hawaiian Acres home on Friday.

Police have arrested a 26-year-old Puna man in connection with a fire that destroyed a Hawaiian Acres home on Friday.

At 10:48 a.m. Friday, patrol officers and Fire Department personnel responded to a structure fire on Road 6 in Hawaiian Acres. The fire was extinguished, but not before causing the structure to be deemed a total loss. A Fire Department investigator determined that the origin of the fire was suspicious.

Investigation by Hilo Criminal Investigations Section detectives led to the arrest Monday afternoon of Justin James Clark of Kurtistown. Clark is being held at the Hilo police cellblock on suspicion of arson while detectives continue the investigation with the assistance of a fire inspector.
